We have a variety of ways that you can donate. With Google Checkout, 100% of your donation goes to the work we do (through 2008). The same is true of a check you mail us. For your convenience, we have PayPal available. This costs us a small credit card fee of 2.9% + $0.30 for donations up to $3000. You can also give through Facebook’s Causes, although at 4.5%, this is the most expensive transaction fee. We are in the process of developing a donation solution through Amazon.
The Open Prosthetics Project is attempting to change the prosthetics industry through social entrepreneurship. We are seeking to jumpstart innovation by adding our ideas unencumbered by ownership, and sometimes incomplete. This project is an open source collaboration between users, designers and funders with the goal of making our creations freely available for anyone to use and build upon, in hopes that improvements reach the market.
Prostheses are beyond the means of many people who need them, yet the industry is dominated by only a few manufacturers selling products that have not kept pace with the increasing sophistication and decreasing cost of technology over the past 20 years. We want to augment the industry by using our low-cost techniques for research and development combined with distributed manufacturing processes to provide innovative and useful prostheses at a fraction of their current cost.
Your donation will be used by the Shared Design Alliance and Open Prosthetics Project to help develop prototypes as well as the infrastructure necessary to help make the sharing of physical designs easier. We are incorporated as a 501( c )3 in North Carolina, and your donation to us is tax deductible.
Thanks very much for your support of the project and your belief in our goals.
